WoW Forever Class and Race Changes, From Brand New Racials to 51 Abilities Classic Never Had
15 min read
Quick summary: WoW Forever class and race changes touch every character. All nine classes get new abilities, 51 in total, many of them old Season of Discovery runes turned into talents and trainer spells. Buffs now last an hour and cover the whole raid. Every race gets a reworked kit of two active and two passive racials, magic resistances are gone, and racials work in druid forms. There are also six new race and class combos, from Human Hunter to Undead Paladin.
WoW Forever class and race changes are the first thing you'll notice the moment you log in. Your Warrior's rage works differently, your Druid can drink potions in Bear Form, and your Orc no longer cuts his own healing in half to hit harder. Some of it is pure quality of life, some of it is a whole new way to play a class. We've been playing WoW Forever at KingBoost since the beta, so here's everything that changed for every race and every class, plus what it means for the character you're about to roll.

What changed for everyone
Buffs last an hour and cover the whole raid. No more rebuffing every half hour, and group buffs now reach every player in the raid instead of one party.
The bigger buffs come from old talents. Improved Mark of the Wild and Improved Power Word: Fortitude are now built in, and Divine Spirit and Blessing of Kings are baseline for their whole class.
Base spell damage is lower on paper. Caster spells show far lower base numbers in their tooltips than in Classic. Wrath and Chain Lightning drop the hardest. Tooltips only show base damage, though, not spell power scaling or talents, so this doesn't tell you which class is stronger. It's the first thing to test once you reach 60.
Healing is almost untouched. Lower spell ranks were also reworked so that every new rank is stronger than the one before.
Season of Discovery abilities are now normal spells. 13 old SoD runes are back as talents and trainer ranks: Arcane Blast, Ice Lance, Frostfire Bolt, Penance, Prayer of Mending, Binding Heal, Lava Burst, Riptide, Lacerate, Wild Growth, Mutilate, Incinerate and Victory Rush. The first rank usually comes from a talent, and the higher ranks from your trainer.

Race rules in WoW Forever
Every race gets two active and two passive racials. Skyborne is the exception, with three active and two passive.
Magic resistances are gone. Dwarf Frost, Night Elf and Tauren Nature, Gnome Arcane and Undead Shadow Resistance were all removed.
Racials work in druid forms. No more shifting out to use Shadowmeld, War Stomp or Walk on Air.
Weapon skill racials now give crit with any weapon. The old sword, mace and axe bonuses are no longer tied to a weapon type.
New race and class combos
All six combos are free for everyone.
Skyborne, the new race, comes with the paid edition.

WoW Forever Leveling

WoW Forever Gold

Ultimate Starter Bundle
Human
Humans never had a stun breaker before, and Will to Survive makes them one of the strongest PvP races in the game.
| Racial | Classic | WoW Forever |
|---|---|---|
| Ruthless | Sword Specialization, +5 skill | +2% crit for attacks and spells with any weapon |

| Perception | Stealth detection for 20 sec | Unchanged |
| Diplomacy | +10% reputation | Removed |
| Mace Specialization | +5 skill | Removed |

Dwarf
A flat 10% damage reduction is a big upgrade over armor, since armor gets weaker against higher level enemies. Artisan's Precision is the only racial besides the Tauren one that boosts crit damage instead of crit chance.
| Racial | Classic | WoW Forever |
|---|---|---|
| Stoneform | +10% armor, removes bleeds, poisons and diseases | 10% less physical damage taken, plus removal and immunity to bleeds, poisons and diseases for 8 sec, 3 min cooldown |
| Big Game Hunter | Didn't exist | New. +5% damage against beasts |
| Artisan's Precision | Didn't exist | New. +2% critical strike damage and healing |
| Find Treasure | Treasure on the minimap | Also a chance to find extra items in most chests |
| Gun Specialization | +5 skill | Removed |
| Frost Resistance | +10 | Removed |
Night Elf
Shadowmeld in combat is the big one. It's a real emergency escape for every Night Elf class now.

| Wisp Spirit | +50% speed as a ghost | +75% |
| Nature Resistance | +10 | Removed |
Gnome
Eureka! is an 8 second window, so fast rotations get the most out of it. Channeled spells like Mind Flay and Drain Life still benefit, while DoTs like Corruption and Rupture don't.
| Racial | Classic | WoW Forever |
|---|---|---|
| Eureka! | Didn't exist | New. Damaging abilities cost 10% less and deal 10% more damage for 8 sec, 2 min cooldown. Periodic effects don't count |

Blood Fury finally works for casters too, and it no longer punishes you for pressing it. Orc Warlocks and Mages get real value from it now.
| Racial | Classic | WoW Forever |
|---|---|---|
| Blood Fury | +25 base attack power, 50% less healing taken | +10% attack power and spell power for 15 sec, no healing penalty, 3 min cooldown |

| Shatter Curse | Didn't exist | New. Removes curses and banes and gives 5% less magic damage taken for 8 sec, 3 min cooldown |

Undead
Losing the immunity hurts. In Classic you could pop Will of the Forsaken ahead of a fear, but now it only breaks you out after.
| Racial | Classic | WoW Forever |
|---|---|---|
| Will of the Forsaken | 5 sec immunity to charm, fear and sleep | Removes them, but no immunity afterwards. 2 min cooldown, and it can't be used under Scatter Shot |
| Cannibalize | 7% health every 2 sec | 7% health and 7% mana every 2 sec for 10 sec, 2 min cooldown |
| Touch of the Grave | Didn't exist | New. Attacks and spells can steal health, up to 5% of your maximum. 30% chance for casters, 20% for Warriors, Paladins and Rogues, once every 25 sec |

| Beast Slaying | +5% damage to beasts | Unchanged |

| Rapid Regeneration | Didn't exist | New. Restores 50% health over 6 sec while channeling, 3 min cooldown. Moving, acting or taking damage cancels it |
| Throwing and Bow Specialization | +5 skill | Removed |
| Nature Resistance | +10 | Removed |
Skyborne
Skyborne is the brand new race in WoW Forever, split into two factions: High Order Skyborne for Alliance and Windshaper Skyborne for Horde. Both share the same five racials.
Skysight and Read Leyline last 30 times longer next to the right spot in the world, and those spots appear in most zones across Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.
| Racial | What it does |
|---|---|
| Skysight | +10% movement speed on foot and mounted for 30 sec, or 15 min near an elemental confluence, 2 min cooldown |
| Read Leyline | +100% health and mana regen for 30 sec, or 15 min near a leyline, 2 sec cast, 2 min cooldown |
| Elemental Insight | +5% damage to elementals |
| Wind Blessed | +3% cast speed and melee and ranged attack speed |
| Walk on Air | Glide through the air for 10 sec with full control, 1.5 min cooldown |
Warrior
New
Spearing Strike is a new Arms talent. It hits for 40% weapon damage, deals 80% more to mounted targets, dragons and giants, and dismounts mounted targets. It costs 15 rage, has a 20 sec cooldown and only works in Battle Stance.
Tactical Mastery is now baseline from level 14, keeping up to 10 rage when you swap stances. The new Improved Tactical Mastery talent adds 3 more per point, up to 25.
Changed
Rage got a full rework. Rage from damage taken ignores your armor and counts absorbed damage as if nothing was absorbed, so Power Word: Shield no longer starves your rage. Critical hits generate double rage. Weapon Mastery replaces the four separate weapon specialization talents, and Protection now works without a shield up to the middle of the tree, which makes it a real PvP second spec.
| Ability | Classic | WoW Forever |
|---|---|---|
| Taunt | 10 sec cooldown | 8 sec |
| Shield Wall | 75% less damage for 10 sec, every 30 min | 60% less damage from all sources for 12 sec, every 15 min |

| Berserker Stance | 20% less threat | No threat reduction |
| Whirlwind | Main hand only | Always hits with both weapons |
| Raging Blows | Didn't exist | Cleave and Whirlwind cost 3 less rage |
Paladin
The Paladin got the biggest rework of any class, with a full tanking toolkit.

New
Seal of Fury is a tanking seal with 7 ranks from level 10 to 58. Melee hits deal up to 35 extra Holy damage, and with a shield equipped every attack gives you an absorb shield worth 50% of that damage. Judgement of Fury hits for 153 Holy and forces the target to attack you for 4 sec.
Hammer of the Righteous arrives at level 40. It hits your target and up to 3 nearby enemies for triple your main hand DPS, with a 6 sec cooldown.
Holy Strike has 8 ranks from level 6 to 60: up to 50% weapon damage plus 93 Holy, 10 sec cooldown.
Light's Vigil is a healer spell from level 40. Your next Holy Shock on the marked target skips its cooldown, damaging an enemy or healing an ally's whole group.
Swift Judgement is a talent that resets Judgement and makes the next one free, once a minute.
Unsealed Wrath is a talent that makes seals 20% cheaper and leaves an echo of your old seal when you swap.

New
Summon Hawk has 4 ranks from level 25 to 60. A hawk dives on your target for up to 108 damage and keeps attacking for 18 sec, two at most at once.
Strider Kick is a level 30 talent: 100% melee weapon damage and +30% run speed for 3 sec.

What to do first
- Pick your race for its active racial, since Will to Survive, Shadowmeld in combat and Blood Fury for casters matter far more now.
- Check the new race and class combos before you roll, like Dwarf Shaman or Undead Paladin.
- Plan around 60 minute buffs, which make every group run and raid smoother.
- Learn your class's new abilities as soon as your level unlocks them, especially Victory Rush, Revive and Tactical Mastery.
- Test caster damage for yourself at 60, since lower base numbers don't tell the whole story.
Every class plays a little differently in WoW Forever, and the fastest way to feel it is to get to the new abilities. WoW Forever leveling gets your character to the talents and trainer ranks that change your rotation, and WoW Forever gold covers every new rank on the way.
