WoW Forever Beginner’s Guide for Players Who Never Touched Classic (and Veterans Who Think They Know It All)
6 min read
World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4 and it is built for people who enjoyed Vanilla WoW as well as those who are new to it. It runs alongside modern WoW and WoW Classic rather than replacing either, so nothing you already have goes away.
What you get is the original Azeroth rebuilt. Over 1,000 new quests, four new zones, nine new dungeons, two new raids and a new playable race. There is no character boost, no WoW Token and no transfer in from Classic Era, so everybody starts from zero on the same day.
This guide covers the decisions you make before you log in, the systems Classic players will not recognise, and the mistakes that cost people their first evening
The four dates

- October 27 – name reservation and early character creation open
- November 4 – launch, at 3:00 p.m. PST worldwide
- December 9 – Hyjal Summit, Barrow Deeps and Onyxia’s Lair all open together
- Winter 2026/27 – the Hardcore ruleset arrives
That gap in the middle is what's important. Forever launches with no raids in it, so your first five weeks at 60 are dungeons, reputations and the mountain itself
Which ruleset should you pick?
Forever has no realms. You pick a region, then a ruleset, and everyone on that ruleset shares one world.
Normal is the beginner choice. PvE, with PvP only when both players flag.
PvP lets the opposite faction attack you anywhere. Levelling takes considerably longer.
Roleplay runs Normal’s rules with a roleplaying community.
Hardcore gives your character one life and arrives in winter. It is sealed. Nothing transfers into it, and a character who dies there can move out to another ruleset permanently but never back.
Collections and Legacy points carry across Normal, PvP and Roleplay. You cannot group across rulesets, and factions cannot group at all
Faction, race and class
Faction first, because Alliance and Horde, unlike in Retail version, cannot group, quest, run dungeons or raid together.
Alliance runs Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome and Skyborne. Horde runs Orc, Troll, Tauren, Undead and Skyborne. The Skyborne choose their side at character creation and need the Skyborne Heroic Pack at $29.99, making them the only paid race in the game.
Six race and class combinations are new to Forever:
- Undead Paladin, with its own questline starting at Bandarion Keep in Tirisfal
- Dwarf Shaman
- Gnome Priest
- Human Hunter
- Orc Mage
- Troll Warlock
Undead Paladin is the big one. Forever has no Blood Elves, so this is the only Paladin the Horde gets.
Racials were rebuilt. Every race now has four, two active and two passive. A few worth knowing before you commit:
- Tauren Cultivation now duplicates a nearby herb, making them the best gatherers in the game
- Human Sword Specialization gives 2% critical strike on spells as well as melee, which quietly makes Humans a caster race
- Orc Blood Fury gives 10% attack power and spell power with no healing penalty attached
- Night Elf Elune’s Light is 10% crit for 15 seconds on a 3 minute cooldown
Camping, the system Classic players will not expect

This is the biggest thing Forever adds and most guides bury it.
Around level 5 you get a quest called The Great Outdoors. It asks you to /sit at a campfire, then sends you to a Cooking trainer for your own Basic Campfire. Every profession you have trained then gives you a quest teaching its camp object.
A camp holds three objects. You can only place one yourself, so the other two need other players. Sit or craft nearby for one minute and the buffs land.
Here is what each profession contributes, and what blocks it:
| Object | Profession | Buff | Blocked by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fish Bowl | Fishing | 8% to all stats | Blessing of Kings |
| Camp Chair | Skinning | 2% critical strike | Moonkin Aura |
| Lodestone | Mining | 90 melee attack power | Blessing of Might |
| Enchanted Lute | Enchanting | Armour, stats, resistances | Mark of the Wild |
| Sharpening Wheel | Blacksmithing | 34 Strength | Strength of Earth Totem |
| Incense Candle | Herbalism | 25 Intellect | Arcane Intellect |
| Mana Well | Alchemy | 29 mana per 5 sec | Blessing of Wisdom |
| Faction Banner | Tailoring | Spirit | Divine Spirit |
| First Aid Kit | First Aid | Stamina | Power Word: Fortitude |
| Camp Tent | Leatherworking | Rested XP to 5% of a level | Nothing |
| Reagent Bot | Engineering | Buy reagents, later repairs | Nothing |
Read that last column before anyone places anything. A group with a Paladin wastes the Fish Bowl and the Lodestone. A group with a Mage wastes the Incense Candle. Camp objects share a one hour cooldown, so a wasted placement costs the hour.
The Camp Tent and the Reagent Bot always land, because nothing in the game duplicates rested experience or field repairs. Only Cooking can grow a camp past three slots, to five and then ten
Your first hour
Clear the whole starting zone. Two quests in it pay off well beyond the experience.
One awards a six-slot bag. Another, Wild Harvest, gives you a free gathering profession, choosing between Mining, Herbalism and Skinning. Take it, because not every starting zone has a profession trainer.
Then change four settings before you take another quest:
- Auto loot. Escape, Options, Controls
- Nameplates. Press V
- NPC names. Escape, Options, search NPC names, enable all
- Quest objectives on the map. Press M, map filters, enable them
Professions worth knowing about early

Take all three secondaries on every character. Cooking, Fishing and First Aid use no primary slot, and two of them place strong camp objects.
First Aid crafts Healing Potions now. The entire ladder from Minor to Major moved off Alchemy, which makes a secondary profession the source of the most-consumed item in the game.
Cooking food grants experience. Every dish carries a Well Fed buff with an experience bonus on top of its stats, so a cook levels faster than someone who skips it.
One trap. Find Herbs and Find Minerals share a single tracking slot. A Herbalism and Mining character cannot see both on the minimap and has to switch manually, so that classic double-gatherer pairing is slower than it used to be
Reading enemy levels
- Grey gives no experience
- Green is easy and pays little
- Yellow is the sweet spot
- Orange is a real fight
- Red has high health, hits hard, and you will miss often
- A skull is at least ten levels above you
Death, and why level 10 matters
Below level 10 there is no penalty. Above it you take resurrection sickness for up to 10 minutes, cutting attributes, damage, armour and resistances by 75%.
When you run back, do not resurrect the instant you reach the body. Find a safe spot first
Rested experience, and a free bar every hour
Set your Hearthstone at an innkeeper in every new zone. Rested caps at 30 bars, which is a level and a half, and pays double experience from kills while it lasts.
There is also a trick most people miss. Find the Adventurer near the inn, take the quest, /sit at the campfire, and one minute later you have a full bar of rested experience. Once an hour, costs nothing.
A Camp Tent at any camp does the same job, topping rested to 5% of a level
Talents, trainers and layers

Talents unlock at level 10, one point per level after, and each tier needs five points spent below it.
Class trainers teach every two levels and charge for it, so keep silver back.
Layering will confuse you once. A message warns your layer is changing, then it happens after five minutes or immediately if you press refresh. Forever runs one world per ruleset rather than many servers, so layers spread the population. Nothing is wrong
When dungeons open, and which ones
The group finder opens dungeons at level 10, earlier than Classic ever allowed.
The Hall of Thanes is the Alliance one, levels 10 to 18, under Ironforge at the High Seat around 43, 51. Another one, Horde only is Ragefire Chasm in Orgrimmar, and the third one is in Barrens area, called Wailing Caverns. Ruins of Lordaeron is the Horde one, levels 15 to 20.
Both are new to Forever. Seven more follow across the climb, ending at Shaper’s Terrace in Un’Goro at 58 to 60.
Build the group with a tank, a healer and three damage, and repair before you go in. On loot, need on the role you signed up as
The Legacy system
Forever’s account-wide progression, and the reason a second character is easier than the first.
You earn Legacy Points from challenges across classes, professions, reputations, PvP, dungeons, raids and exploration, then spend up to 16 per character at launch. Points are earned account-wide but spent individually.
Three perks are worth taking early on almost anybody:
- Working Overtime, five ranks, open from the start. Up to 20% more skill-ups from any profession
- Bountiful Harvest, five ranks, open from the start. Up to 100% more scarce materials from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning
- Gourmand, three ranks. Food buffs last up to 100% longer
Reaching skill 150, 225 and 300 in any profession for the first time on the account each award a point as well
Where you are going

Four new zones sit across the climb rather than at the cap.
Zephras Isle at 1 to 12 is the Skyborne start. The Riverglades at 35 to 45 fills the exact stretch where Classic quests run dry. Shen’Dralas at 40 to 45 sits between Mulgore and Desolace. Mount Hyjal at 60 holds the endgame.
Nothing flies in Forever and there is no level scaling, so plan around the boats. New routes run Stormwind to Auberdine, Menethil to Southshore and Auberdine, and Steamwheedle to Powderfuse Port in the Riverglades
Gold and the auction house
Sell junk at any vendor, and use the buyback tab if you sell something by mistake. Auction listings run 2, 8 or 24 hours, with longer durations costing a higher deposit. Enable the mailbox on your minimap, since purchases and proceeds both arrive there.
When nothing in a quest reward is an upgrade, hover both and take whichever vendors for more.
Spend your first real gold on a weapon. A green weapon near your level does more for levelling speed than any other slot
The addon worth installing
Questie shows every available quest on your map, including zones you have not visited. CurseForge, select Forever, search Questie, install, reload.
What to do first
- Reserve your name on October 27
- Pick Normal unless you want open-world PvP
- Match your friends’ faction before anything else
- Turn on auto loot, nameplates, NPC names and quest objectives
- Clear the starting zone. The bag and the free gathering profession are both there
- Do The Great Outdoors at level 5. It opens camping, which nothing in Classic prepares you for
- Take all three secondary professions. First Aid makes the potions now
- Take Working Overtime and Bountiful Harvest first in the Legacy trees
- Set your Hearthstone in every new zone and log out in an inn
- Buy a weapon before anything else
Forever is built around the journey and the journey is long by design. KingBoost handles WoW Forever levelling from launch day if you would rather spend your time at 60
