WoW Forever Blacksmithing Guide, the Route to 300 and Every New Plan
7 min read
Blacksmithing got the biggest rebuild of any profession in World of Warcraft: Forever. The beta client holds 437 recipes and 197 of them are new, which is more new material than any other tradeskill received. It also makes things it never made in Classic, including a full line of fist weapons and five named armor sets that no trainer will ever teach you.
It is still the most expensive profession to level. The route to 225 wants 602 Bronze Bars, and the stretch from 225 to 300 wants 1,390 Thorium Bars. Plan the gold before you plan the crafting
What is new in Forever

- 197 new recipes, spread across every slot and skill bracket
- Fist weapons, which Blacksmithing never crafted in Classic
- Five new armor set lines bought with Merchant’s Favor rather than learned from a trainer
- New metals in the endgame plans, including Azerothium Bar, Heavy Thorium Bar and Legionrite Bar
- The Blacksmith title, account-wide, from a Certification bought at skill 300
- Three camp objects, which turn a Blacksmith into a portable anvil and forge

Newly craftable fist weapons
Classic Blacksmithing made no fist weapons at all. Forever gives the profession five, running the full skill range:
| Weapon | Skill |
|---|---|
| Brass Knuckles | 80 |
| Iron Fists | 130 |
| Mithril Claws | 195 |
| Thorium Cestus | 250 |
| Bagh Nakh | 300 |
Brass Knuckles is a level 21 green with 17 to 33 damage on a 2.40 speed, plus 2 Agility and 2 Stamina. Three of the five plans are still unfound in the beta, so the sources for Iron Fists, Mithril Claws and Bagh Nakh are open questions

Apprentice caps at 75 from any trainer. Journeyman opens at skill 50 and character level 10 and caps at 150. Expert opens at skill 125 and level 20 and caps at 225. Artisan opens at skill 200 and level 35 and takes you to 300, and unlike Cooking or First Aid it comes straight from the trainer with no quest attached.
The beta caps every profession at 225, so everything past Shining Mithril Helm only matters once that lifts at launch
What it costs to reach 225

Two things come from a trade supplies vendor for coppers: 27 Strong Flux and 25 Green Dye.
The rest is the real bill:
- 602 Bronze Bar
- 328 Mithril Bar
- 206 Rough Stone
- 162 Heavy Stone
- 150 Iron Bar
- 147 Steel Bar
- 144 Coarse Stone
- 64 Citrine
- 60 Strange Dust
- 27 Medium Leather
- 10 Copper Bar
- 8 Gold Bar
The path also crafts 86 Rough Grinding Stones, 72 Coarse and 54 Heavy along the way, so keep every stone you make rather than vendoring it.
For the stretch to 300 after launch the headline numbers are 1,390 Thorium Bar, 462 Mithril Bar, 400 Dense Stone, 252 Rugged Leather, 130 Azerothium Bar and 100 Large Opal
The Merchant’s Favor sets
This is the part of Blacksmithing no trainer covers. Supply crates found around the world get filled and handed in at a trade camp for Merchant’s Favor, and the quartermaster sells 59 recipes plus the Certification, starting at skill 45.
Alliance buy from Stondry Darkhammer at the Azeroth Commerce Authority camp in Three Corners, Redridge Mountains, /way 10.2 74.2. Horde buy from Gor’mak at Durotar Supply and Logistics outside the Crossroads in the Barrens, /way 49.8 29.6.
| Cost | Skill | What it buys |
|---|---|---|
| 30 Favor | 45 to 125 | The chain sets. Guard’s, Crusader’s, Acolyte’s, Protector’s and Veteran’s, covering belt, boots, gloves, shirt, helm and leggings |
| 60 Favor | 175 to 210 | Plate gauntlets and pauldrons in the Justicar’s, Officer’s, Prefect’s, Sentinel’s and Warder’s lines |
| 90 Favor | 225 to 250 | Wristguards, sabatons and waistguards in the same five lines, plus Thorium Cestus and Thorium Greatmace |
| 120 Favor | 300 | Enriched Thorium Breastplate, Helm and Leggings, plus the Legionite Glaive |
Five parallel set lines across mail and plate is a lot of gear that never reaches a trainer, which makes Favor worth collecting from the moment you can carry a crate

How do you get the Blacksmith title?

Buy the Blacksmithing Certification from the Merchant’s Favor quartermaster at skill 300. It costs 1,000 Merchant’s Favor and the title applies to your whole account rather than one character.
Skill milestones pay separately. Reaching 150, 225 and 300 for the first time on the account each award 1 Legacy Point, so levelling this funds the Legacy trees on every character you own
What Blacksmithing brings to camp
| Tier | Object | Skill | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sharpening Wheel | 20 | 34 Strength at level 60 to everyone sitting nearby |
| 2 | Anvil | 140 | A usable anvil at camp, keeps the Strength buff |
| 3 | Master Forge | 300 | Required for the most advanced plans, keeps the Strength buff |
The Sharpening Wheel does not stack with Strength of Earth Totem, so a group with an Enhancement Shaman gets nothing from it. Tiers 2 and 3 come from Blueprints that drop in dungeons rather than a trainer, and the Master Forge is what lets you craft the top of your own book without riding to a capital

Is Blacksmithing worth it in WoW Forever?
For plate and mail wearers, yes. It is the deepest recipe list in the game, it gears you while you level, and the Merchant’s Favor sets give it a second progression track that does not depend on drops.
For gold it is slower than gathering but it holds value. Nobody buys gold with real money in Forever, so crafted weapons and armor sell into a market where every copper was farmed.
The honest warning is cost. 602 Bronze Bars to 225 and 1,390 Thorium Bars past it means this profession is either paired with Mining or funded with gold. Going in without one of the two is how people stall at 200 and abandon it
What to do first
- Pair it with Mining unless you plan to buy every bar
- Take Working Overtime before you craft anything. Five ranks, open from the start, up to 20% more skill-ups on everything
- Keep every grinding stone you make. The route crafts over 200 of them and later recipes eat them
- Start collecting supply crates immediately. Favor recipes open at skill 45 and the best sets sit behind them
- Take Performance Bonus if you commit to Favor. Three ranks for up to a 15% chance of double Favor per crate, though it needs a rank in Bountiful Harvest first
- Reach skill 20 early for the Sharpening Wheel, unless your group already runs an Enhancement Shaman
Blacksmithing is the most material-hungry profession in Forever and the gold has to come from somewhere. KingBoost levels WoW Forever professions from launch day so the anvil is at 300 before the raids open on December 9.
