How to fight the Headless Horseman

Open the Dungeon Finder and pick The Headless Horseman from the holiday list. You load into the Scarlet Monastery Graveyard. Run to the far end and click the pumpkin on your left to summon him.

Any character level 10 or higher can queue, but the best loot needs a higher level, as covered below.

Wickerman Curses and Kickin' With the Wick

Five Wicker Men stand on your left as you enter. Each of the four small ones grants one curse, and the large one in the middle grants all four at once.

The curses are personal, so they only affect you and your healer's workload. Each one raises your bonus mount chance on your first kill of the day. Missing a curse mechanic stacks Wicker Man's Shadow on you. If you would die, Wicker Man's Protection saves you, but you lose your curses and their reward bonus. Finish the fight with all four active to earn Kickin' With the Wick.

What level do you need for the Loot-Filled Pumpkin with a mount chance

Level 60 or higher. Characters level 60+ get the Loot-Filled Pumpkin, which holds the mounts and the rarest rewards. Characters level 59 and below get the Loot-Stuffed Pumpkin, which has masks, Tricky Treats and older transmog but no mounts.

Low level alts can still farm rings, candy and Tricky Treats, but your mount roll belongs on a level 60+ character.

How the Horseman mount drops work

The rarest rewards are tied to your first kill of the day across your whole account.

The chance for the Charger, Arfus and the Velocidrake armor rises with each new day you defeat the Horseman. The Reins bonus grows with every curse you accept on that first kill.

That changes how you farm. Make your first kill of the day count. Use a level 60+ character you play well, take all four curses and survive. Alts that run him later in the day still collect their own pumpkin, Ghoulish armor pieces, Tricky Treats and a small shot at the Reins, but the big roll is already spent.

There are 9 pieces and 14 event days, so one character can finish the whole set with time to spare. Match it with The Horseman's Ghoulish Great Blade, The Horseman's Ghoulish Blade and The Horseman's Ghoulish Bulwark from Dorothy or Chub for 100 Tricky Treats each.

New in 2026: haunted neighborhoods

Player housing neighborhoods in Founder's Point and Razorwind Shores get a full Hallow's End overhaul. Each neighborhood rolls one random theme with its own cosmetics, candy and daily quests.

To get started:

1. Pick up A Haunted Home from a Holiday Enthusiast.
2. Follow it to Yin Shuilan at the Holiday Hub in your neighborhood.
3. Take the daily quests from Nomi.

Neighborhood daily quests

Ghost Busting has the best payout. A full Ghost Tank summons a Shade of Seabreaker Skoloth in the Holiday Hub. Team up to pull it into the magic portal, and it leaves a treasure chest full of Tricky Treats and Neighborhood Candy. Watch for the Headless Horseman, who can show up and summon a second Shade elsewhere in the neighborhood.

On You're a Spider, Man, finish all 10 webs in one go. Ending the transformation early starts a 15 minute cooldown before you can turn back into a spider.

Neighborhood Contribution

Every neighborhood has a Neighborhood Contribution bar that fills as residents complete holiday quests and activities. As it fills, more themed decorations spread across the streets and more candy appears around the Candy Bucket in the Holiday Hub. You can also clean Discarded Wrappers in other neighborhoods to help them along.

Wickerman Piñata

The holiday hub has a daily quest that adds 10 candies to the Wickerman Piñata. Once it is full, either start the fight or save it for later. Choose Start Whacking to begin a one minute countdown, then smash the piñata for Neighborhood Candy. When it falls, collect the bonus candy too.

Community Candy Crawl

For 15 minutes every hour, candy buckets appear outside every occupied player plot in Founder's Point and Razorwind Shores. Collect 10 Neighborhood Candy from them to earn 2 Tricky Treats, 3 Neighborhood Candy, XP and House XP.

Tricky Treat Traders

Neighborhood Candy is only worth something once you trade it. The Tricky Treat Traders swap it for Tricky Treats, and each neighborhood sets a fresh exchange rate every day. Check traders in other neighborhoods before you sell, since the best rate can be a portal away.

Midnight candy buckets

New candy buckets sit in the inns of Quel'Thalas. Visit all 15 for Tricks and Treats of Midnight.

Slayer's Rise has one bucket per faction, so every character visits 15 buckets in total. Each bucket is a one time quest per year that awards gold, XP and a Handful of Treats with Tricky Treats, candy and a chance at masks.

Hallow's End buffs for leveling

Two free buffs near the Wickerman outside Stormwind and Undercity make candy bucket runs even better for leveling characters.

• Mastery and Stamina. Every four hours, Sylvanas and Genn Greymane appear near the Wickerman ten minutes after a city wide announcement. They grant Decree of the Dark Lady or Greymane's Resolve for one hour, and it persists through death.
• XP and reputation. Click the ignited ashes at the Wickerman bonfire for Unburdened on Alliance or Grim Visage on Horde. Both give 10% XP from kills and 10% reputation for two hours. The reputation bonus stacks with other bonuses, so max level characters can use it too.

New Hallow's End achievements

Your own neighborhood only rolls one theme, so Sweet Tooth means finding neighborhoods with the other two. Friends, guildmates and community neighborhoods are the fastest way to cover all three.

The Warlords of Draenor achievement A Frightening Friend now rewards Scarecrow Pepe decor. If you already earned it, Pepe lands in your collection automatically once the event begins.

Hallowed Be Thy Name

Hallowed Be Thy Name is the Hallow's End meta achievement. It awards the title the Hallowed and counts toward What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been, the meta for every holiday of the year. It needs 11 achievements.

Hallowed Be Thy Name tips

• Buy what you can. Dorothy and Chub sell the Tooth Pick, G.N.E.R.D.S. and the Hallowed Helm, and Pippi and Woim sell the Sinister Squashling. That covers That Sparkling Smile and Sinister Calling with Tricky Treats alone.
• Buy the specific wands for The Masquerade. Stymie and Darla sell every Hallowed Wand. The Hallowed Wand - Random does not count, and the achievement is account wide, so friends can wand each other for credit.
• Bring a group for The Savior of Hallow's End. The Shade of the Horseman attacks Goldshire, Kharanos and Azure Watch for Alliance, and Razor Hill, Brill and Falconwing Square for Horde, every half hour. Grab a Water Bucket and put out every fire before his fourth pass, then defeat him.
• Do G.N.E.R.D. Rage in a battleground. Honorable kills come much faster there than in world PvP.

The Horseman's head is now decor you get to keep. The Horrific Head of the Horseman drops from the Headless Horseman on your first kill every day, and Cordula Wolfgang and Spew Gutsout sell extra copies.

Hallow's End decor recipes

Cordula Wolfgang and Spew Gutsout also sell two decor recipes. Scribes can learn Technique: Apple Bobbing Bucket to craft the Apple Bobbing Bucket. Tailors can learn Pattern: Spidery Witch Hat to craft the Spidery Witch Hat.

Both recipes use Tricky Treats and Neighborhood Candy as ingredients, so craft everything you need before November 2. Crafted decor sells well on the Auction House during the event.

Hallow's End vendors and transmog

The classic holiday vendors stand at the Wickerman outside Stormwind and Undercity. Talk to Zidormi in Tirisfal Glades to travel back to the classic Undercity on the Horde side.

Dorothy and Chub sell the transmog:

The Patched Harvest Golem set used to drop only from the Horseman. Now it sits on the vendor, so anyone who missed it can buy it outright. The full look, all seven armor pieces plus the Post and the Claw, costs 900 Tricky Treats. The Patched Harvest Golem set page shows every piece together.

They also sell the toys Headless Horseman's Hearthstone, Little Wickerman, Horse Head Costume and Horse Tail Costume, plus four Exquisite Costume Sets that turn you into a famous boss for an hour.

Pippi and Woim sell the pets Sinister Squashling, Feline Familiar, Cursed Birman, Widget the Departed and Naxxy.

Classic Hallow's End quests

The old favorites still pay out Tricky Treats.

• Orphan candy run. Hallow's End Treats for Jesper! and Hallow's End Treats for Spoops! send you to capital city innkeepers, where each emote earns a different candy.
• Shade of the Horseman. Save a village with "Let the Fires Come!" for a Crudely Wrapped Gift with candy, masks or brooms.
• Stink bombs. Stink Bombs Away! drops stink bombs on the enemy capital, and the clean up quest clears them from your own.
• Wickerman. A Time to Gain and A Time to Build Up light the bonfire for the XP buff.
• The Crooked Tree. Level 40+ characters can start Beware of the Crooked Tree in Legion Dalaran. The daily Under the Crooked Tree in Val'sharah rewards 4 to 6 Tricky Treats and a chance at four witch hats.
• Creepy Crate. A short questline from Gretchen Fenlow outside Stormwind or Candace Fenlow outside Undercity rewards the Creepy Crate pet.

• Run the Midnight candy bucket lap once per character.
• Hit the Community Candy Crawl every hour you are online.

• Run the Crooked Tree daily on every level 40+ character.
