WoW Patch 12.1.7 Takes You Back to Dornogal with a New Game Mode and 13 Mounts
15 min read
Quick Summary: Patch 12.1.7 Echoes of the Worldcore is the next Midnight content update, expected in December 2026. It brings the campaign The Return to Dornogal, the standalone game mode Talebound, an eight week Turbulent Timeways with the Markeet of the Infinite mount, four new Lorewalking stories, two new Omnium Folio runes, over 200 decor items and 13 new mounts, including the Winter Veil Winterrrgl's Pine-Powered Candy Cane Contraption.
Patch 12.1.7 looks small on paper, but it is one of the best collector patches of Midnight. A brand new game mode hands out mounts, pets, transmog and decor, Timewalking returns with a new mount and an old one back on sale, and Winter Veil gets a new holiday mount. KingBoost runs WoW services across every part of Midnight, and this guide covers everything in Echoes of the Worldcore, from the story to every reward worth chasing.

When does Patch 12.1.7 come out
Patch 12.1.7 is on the PTR now, with release expected in late autumn or early winter, most likely December 2026. That timing lines up with the Feast of Winter Veil, which runs from mid December to January 2, so the new holiday mount should be live for the event
Story campaign: The Return to Dornogal
Xal'atath has breached the Worldcore, and the only way down is the damaged Coreway beneath Dornogal. The new campaign reunites you with Arator, Brinthe, Dagran and Brann Bronzebeard to work out how to reopen the Coreway and reach the Worldcore beyond it.
This chapter sets up Patch 12.2 Eclipse, where the Midnight story ends at the Worldcore itself. Finish it before the final patch arrives.
Talebound
Talebound is a new standalone game mode in the style of Plunderstorm and Remix. A mysterious Storyteller pulls you into dark, macabre tales full of enemies, bosses, puzzles, treasure and relics. You play solo or with friends, and every reward lands on your main Midnight Warband.
How Talebound works
- Open it from your game menu. Talebound costs nothing extra.
- Create a Talebound character. Pick one of three classes. You can make more than one, and your retail class and gear do not come with you.
- Play a tale. Each tale is a themed level with its own enemies and bosses.
- Return to Quillgrave. This small Drust village in a pocket of Azeroth called Red Hollow is your hub between runs.
- Earn Bound Silver and spend it on cosmetics for your whole Warband.
Movement is the core of combat. Every class can double jump, dodge and guard, so positioning wins fights, and lesser enemies flinch when you hit them.
Talebound classes
| Class | Style | Abilities |
|---|---|---|
| Slayer | Sword and gun monster hunter | Slash, Explosive Shot, Minefield, Shrapnel Round, Throwing Knives, Silver Bolt |
| Inquisitor | Mobile holy fire caster | Purify, Condemn, Denounce, Light's Wrath, Rapture, Radiant Burst |
| Witch | Dark spellcaster with summons | Brewing Storm, Bubbling Cauldron, Feline Communion, Winter Spiders, Moonlight Ravens, Thorns |
The Slayer suits close range burst, with a three hit Slash that stuns on the final blow and Silver Bolt leaping onto the highest health enemy in range. The Inquisitor fights on the move, since Condemn and Radiant Burst both cast while running. The Witch throws exploding frogs with Bubbling Cauldron, sends a spider swarm with Winter Spiders and turns into a star raining cat with Feline Communion.
The four launch tales
| Tale | Bosses |
|---|---|
| Darkhaven | Konrad von Sonnesheim, The Lord Marshal, and Alexandre Dozsenc, The Blood Bishop |
| Greenthistle Wood | Granny Greenthumb, Ylska Vilefang and Mobog, The Giant of Greenthistle |
| Greywake's Expedition | Zzyg'th, The Hadal Tyrant, and Chathoa, The Herald from Beyond |
| Grove of the Night Court | Tilywth, The Fairy Queen, and Maernok, The Nightmare King |
Quillgrave upgrades
| NPC | Upgrade |
|---|---|
| Arcanist | Potions, draughts and flasks found in tales, improved with Alkahest |
| Scribe | Talents that change how your abilities work |
| Outfitter | Higher starting health, damage, energy and focus |
| Antiquarian | Passives that change how you approach each tale, paid for with Lost Relics |
Each class talent tree has 27 points earned through Tales of Valor. Ducats collected during tales convert into the resources that power these upgrades.
Talebound rewards
Bound Silver comes from quests, achievements and tale progress, and it is Warband bound, so every run on any character fills the same wallet. Spend it in the Talebound store through Nib in Quillgrave, the character select screen or the Game Menu.
- Mounts. The Shadowbound Storybook, a flying copy of the Storyteller's own Shadowtome, plus the Gilnean Copper Charger and seven more listed below.
- Transmog. The Ensemble: Witch Hunter's Shadow Attire, with the Witch Hunter's Shadow Hat, Shadow Mantle, Shadow Drape, Shadow Jacket, Shadow Vest, Shadow Grips, Shadow Cinch, Shadow Kilt, Shadow Pants and Shadow Striders.
- Decor. The Quillgrave Storyteller's Lectern and Quillgrave Talebound Shadowtome.
- Pets. Hex-Cursed Manifestation, Inquisitor's Messenger, Slayer's Faithful Tracker and Zyg'ee.
Grab what you want while Talebound is live, since there is no guarantee the rewards stay in the store afterward.
Every new mount in Patch 12.1.7
Talebound mounts
| Mount | Look |
|---|---|
| Shadowbound Storybook | A flying storybook |
| Gilnean Copper Charger | A loyal Gilnean steed |
| Autumn Dream Jumper | A seasonal woodland jumper |
| Enchanted Woodland Wanderer | A mossy wanderer of green woods |
| Faith-Cursed Courser | A lone horse of the darkened glades |
| Lost Mare of the Maddening Faire | A cursed mare from a traveling troupe |
| Night Court Courier | A star lit winged courier |
| Shadowpaw Wood Watcher | A watcher of the Greenseer coven |
| Stone-Carved Crusher | A carved statue brought to life |
Holiday mount
Winterrrgl's Pine-Powered Candy Cane Contraption is the new Feast of Winter Veil mount, a candy cane machine with the murloc Winterrrgl riding along. It has a chance to drop from The Greench, the Winter Veil boss, so kill it every day of the event on every character you have.
Timewalking mount
Markeet of the Infinite is the reward for Master of the Turbulent Timeways VI. Its flavor text promises to let slip the birds of the Infinite.
Trading Post mounts
Reanimated Skeletal Raptor and The Watcher in the Waves arrive on the Trading Post after launch. The Skeletal Raptor is a perfect fit for troll Death Knights.
Stegodon mounts
Four Stegodon mounts in Black, Blue, Green and Purple are on the PTR with placeholder names and the Trading Post as their likely source. Treat them as future additions rather than launch day rewards.
Turbulent Timeways
Turbulent Timeways runs for eight weeks from the launch of 12.1.7, with a different Timewalking expansion each week. There is nothing to sign up for. Queue for the active Timewalking dungeon in the Group Finder and the event does the rest.
| Buff | How you get it | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Knowledge of Timeways | Complete a Timewalking dungeon | 2 hour XP buff that stacks with each dungeon |
| Mastery of Timeways | Reach 4 stacks of Knowledge | 3 hour 30% XP buff, refreshed by each dungeon |
Both buffs persist through death, and the Knowledge timer freezes while you are logged out.
- Earn Mastery of Timeways in four of the eight weeks to complete Master of the Turbulent Timeways VI and unlock Markeet of the Infinite.
- Credit is account wide, so each week can be earned on a different character.
- Weeks do not have to be in a row, so a busy holiday week costs you nothing.
- Timewalking weekly quests reward the Cache of Quel'Thalas Treasures with Heroic level loot.
- New housing decor joins the Timewalking vendors for Classic, Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria, Battle for Azeroth, Shadowlands and Dragonflight.
Missed a past Turbulent Timeways mount? Each one goes on sale at the Timewalking vendors for 5,000 Timewarped Badges once the next event starts. If the pattern holds, the Turbulent Timeways V reward, Spawn of Vyranoth, joins the vendors during 12.1.7, so save your badges.
Lorewalking: Jaina, Thrall, Titans and Tyr
Patch 12.1.7 adds four Lorewalking stories, open to any character level 10 or higher.
| Story | Focus |
|---|---|
| Jaina | Jaina Proudmoore's path through loss, struggle and triumph |
| Thrall | Thrall as slave, warchief, shaman, father and farmer |
| Titans | Where the Titans came from and what they truly want |
| Tyr | The restored titan keeper and what his return means |
Start them with Li Li Stormstout.
| City | Location |
|---|---|
| Silvermoon City | East of the Sanctum of Light /way #2393 58.7 70.8 |
| Orgrimmar | Near the flight masters /way #85 54.3 56.6 |
| Stormwind | Olivia's Pond /way #84 64.3 16.2 |
| Dornogal | Keeper's Terrace /way #2339 49.7 31.5 |
Every campaign rewards a souvenir the first time you finish it on any character, plus a readable Lorewalker's Notes book. The four new stories add four new readable decor books. Repeating campaigns earns a Lorewalker's Crate of Memorabilia with old expansion gear, a quick way to fill out your transmog collection.
The older campaigns are still worth finishing if you missed them.
| Campaign | Souvenir |
|---|---|
| The Loa | Tome of Kings decor |
| Elves of Quel'thalas | Tome of Silvermoon Intrigue decor |
| The Lich King | Royal Visage toy |
| Ethereals | K'aresh Memory Crystal toy |
| Xal'atath | Echo of Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire toy |
Only one Lorewalking story saves at a time, and starting another deletes your progress, so finish one before you begin the next. Other quests pause while you are Lorewalking, and the Ask a Question button under the minimap lets Li Li fill in any gaps.
Lorewalking also hides a free hearthstone. Accept a story, hit Exit Vehicle and carry on playing, and the Lorewalking panel stays in your quest list. Click its icon from anywhere to teleport straight back to Li Li's bench, with no cooldown.
Omnium Folio upgrades
The Omnium Folio gets two more Motes of Omnial Inquiry and two new runes.
Rune of Empowerment gives your stat rune 20% more of its stat. That covers Rune of Critical Power, Rune of Burning Haste, Rune of Masterful Cunning and Rune of the Versatile Warrior.
Rune of Critical Mass upgrades your core rune.
| Core rune | Rune of Critical Mass effect |
|---|---|
| Rune of Void-Touched Orbs | Chance to call down 3 orbs that deal Void damage or heal allies within 5 yards |
| Rune of Unleashed Fire | Chance to blast the area for Fire damage or healing split within 10 yards |
How to unlock the Omnium Folio

Midnight Season 3 brings Magisters' Terrace and Maisara Cavern back into the dungeon pool, and the top 1% and 5% Mythic+ rewards switch to rankings within your specialization.
