WoW Forever Herbalism Guide, Zone Routs and the New Seed System
6 min read
Herbalism has three recipes in Forever and all three are camp objects. The rest of the profession is 28 herbs picked off the ground, from Peacebloom at skill 1 up to Black Lotus at 300.
The nodes changed though. A herb can now drop seeds or scarce materials on top of the herb itself, and at skill 140 a Greenhouse turns those seeds back into herbs while you are logged off.
The buyer list widened too. Alchemy still eats the most, but First Aid needs herbs for its new Healing Potions, and the three new endgame herbs turn up in Engineering and Enchanting recipes as well. There is no WoW Token in Forever and no character boost. Every copper on the server was farmed by a player
The tracking slot problem

Read this before you pick a second profession.
Find Herbs and Find Minerals share one tracking slot. Only one can be active. A character with Herbalism and Mining sees herb nodes or ore veins on the minimap, never both, and switching means opening the menu every time you change what you are looking for.
That does not make the pairing bad. It makes it slower than it was in Classic, and it means Alchemy is the cleaner second profession for most people. Take Mining alongside it only if you are willing to run herb laps and ore laps separately

Zone routes for every bracket
A node pays a guaranteed point for its first 25 skill. After that it tapers. At 100 points past its level it greys out. Chase the bracket rather than the individual herb, and pick zones where several herb families overlap.
1 to 75. Gather while you quest and do not detour. Alliance want Elwynn Forest, Dun Morogh, Teldrassil, Darkshore or Loch Modan. Horde want Durotar, Mulgore, Tirisfal Glades, Silverpine or The Barrens. Skyborne gather through Zephras Isle. Peacebloom and Silverleaf carry you to 15, Earthroot joins there, Mageroyal at 50 and Briarthorn at 70.
75 to 150. Darkshore, Ashenvale, The Barrens, Stonetalon Mountains, Wetlands, Redridge, Duskwood and Hillsbrad all work. Stranglekelp sits on coastlines and waterways, so pick it up when your loop touches water rather than building a route around it. Bruiseweed and Wild Steelbloom arrive at 100 and 115, Grave Moss and Kingsblood at 120 and 125.
150 to 225. Arathi Highlands, Stranglethorn Vale, Desolace, Dustwallow Marsh, Feralas, The Hinterlands, Swamp of Sorrows and the Badlands. Liferoot at 150, Fadeleaf at 160, Goldthorn at 170, Khadgar’s Whisker at 185, Firebloom at 205, Purple Lotus at 210 and Arthas’ Tears at 220. Match the zone to your character level so you are picking herbs rather than fighting.
225 to 300. Felwood, Un’Goro Crater, both Plaguelands, Burning Steppes, Silithus, Tanaris and Winterspring. Dreamfoil at 270 and Mountain Silversage at 280 are the two worth stopping for every single time you see them.
Journeyman opens at skill 50 and character level 10. Expert at 125 and level 20. Artisan at 200 and level 35. The beta caps professions at 225, and its level cap starts at 20 before rising to 30, so nobody has tested the top of this route yet.
Skip the first trainer trip. Take Wild Harvest as your starting zone quest reward and you have Apprentice Herbalism before you leave

Seeds, scarce materials and the Greenhouse

Every node can drop something extra now.
Seeds come in four grades: Commonplace, Uncommon, Unusual and Scarce. Alone they do nothing. Plant them in a Greenhouse and they grow herbs over time with you nowhere near it. The Seed Hybridizer at 300 multiplies seeds and combines them into rarer grades.
Scarce materials drop from the same nodes. Three so far: Frilled Lichen, Rosecap and Stranglevine. Beta players report Frilled Lichen and Commonplace Herb Seeds off Peacebloom and Earthroot in Dun Morogh, so both start dropping at skill 1.
Which puts Bountiful Harvest at the top of your Legacy list. Five ranks, open from the start, and the top rank finds 100% more scarce materials across Herbalism, Mining and Skinning. That changes what a node is worth. An ordinary Peacebloom stops being a copper herb once a seed or a Frilled Lichen comes with it
Marefoil, Demonsage and Death Lotus
Three new herbs feed the endgame.
Marefoil turns up in new Alchemy flask recipes and in Engineering crafts. Demonsage sits in high-level flask recipes. Death Lotus appears across multiple professions.
Nobody has found where any of them grow. Their skill requirements are unpublished too. Treat every route that claims a Marefoil farming spot right now as a guess
Best race and class for Herbalism
Tauren. Cultivation used to be a flat skill bonus. In Forever it grows a duplicate of a nearby herb, and the duplicate can be harvested by anyone, Herbalism or not. Each herb can only be cultivated once.
On class, Druid wins on movement. Travel Form gets you there and Prowl gets you out without a fight. Hunters and Warlocks manage it differently, with a pet holding the mob while you gather and Feign Death ending combat the second the herb lands. Rogues just stealth past the problem.
Class matters less than the route though. A Warrior in an empty zone out-farms a Druid on a contested one.
Two items stack for +10 skill. Herbalist’s Gloves give five, the Advanced Herbalism glove enchant gives another five. The gloves are leather, the enchant goes on anything

What Herbalism brings to camp
| Object | Effect | Skill | Materials |
|---|---|---|---|
| Incense Candle | 25 Intellect at 60 | 20 | 1 Peacebloom, 1 Silverleaf |
| Greenhouse | Grows herbs from seeds | 140 | 2 Simple Wood, Arthas’ Tears, Purple Lotus |
| Seed Hybridizer | Upgrades and multiplies seeds | 300 | 4 Mountain Silversage, 1 Crystal Vial, 2 Runecloth |
Check for a Mage before you place the Candle. It does not stack with Arcane Intellect. All camp objects share a one hour cooldown, so putting down something nobody needs costs you the hour
How to actually make gold with it
The highest-skill herb is not the most profitable herb. That is the whole lesson.
Sell into profession rushes. Peacebloom, Briarthorn and Goldthorn spike when a server full of Alchemists is levelling through the same bracket you already passed. Low-level herbs can outsell Dreamfoil for weeks after launch.
Watch the repeat consumables. Mana potions, protection potions and flasks get rebought every raid week. The herbs behind them hold value after the rush dies down.
Do not camp Black Lotus. A dense mixed-herb circuit beats an hour spent checking three spawn points, and a contested famous route beats nothing at all.
Switch zones when the loop comes up empty. If you finish a circuit and the nodes have not respawned, another Herbalist is ahead of you. More laps will not fix it.
Count the seeds. Once the Greenhouse is down, a node with a seed in it is worth more than the herb on its own
What to do first
- Take Wild Harvest as a starting zone quest reward and skip the first trainer entirely
- Put five points into Bountiful Harvest early. Open from the start, doubles scarce material drops at full rank
- Roll Tauren if gold is the point. A free duplicate on every herb beats any other racial
- Pick Alchemy as the second profession unless you are happy switching tracking every few minutes
- Buy the gloves, get the enchant. Ten skill for almost nothing
- Push to 140 for the Greenhouse. Herbs that grow while you are logged off
- Keep every seed. Worthless now, worth something at 140
Herbalism costs hours and nothing else, and Forever charges those either way. KingBoost levels WoW Forever professions from launch day so the herbs are banked before the raids open on December 9
