WoW Forever: Everything We Know About Blizzard's Classic Plus
6 min read
World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4, 2026, with beta opening on September 17. It runs on the same subscription as regular World of Warcraft, and it is the Classic Plus people have been asking Blizzard for since 2019.
Here is everything confirmed from BlizzCon and the deep dive panel that followed.

Leveling WoW Forever

Onyxia's Lair Attunement

Onyxia's Lair

A third version of World of Warcraft running alongside Modern and Classic rather than replacing either. It sits inside Year One of Vanilla and stays there permanently, borrowing ideas from later expansions to refresh the experience without leaving the era.
The stated design goal is removing the original's endless grind and giving players reasons to experiment. Classes, talent trees and items have all been reworked, and the open world has new mechanics built specifically to push strangers into each other.
Is WoW Forever Classic Plus?
Yes, in everything but name. This is the project the community has called Classic Plus for years: original-era Azeroth with new content built for it now, rather than a rerun of 2004 or a fresh progression server heading toward The Burning Crusade.
What is the WoW Forever release date?
November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. Beta begins Thursday, September 17, and access goes to players who pre-order.
What is the new race in WoW Forever?

The Skyborne. They are the only new playable race announced, and they arrive through the Skyborne Epic Pack, which also carries beta access.
That has been the one sour note of the announcement. Gating the sole new race behind a purchase drew immediate backlash, with coverage already calling them cash elves. Blizzard has not responded to the criticism at the time of writing.
Is there a new class in WoW Forever?

No. The class list is the Vanilla nine, and Blizzard has not announced a tenth.
What you get instead are new race and class combinations that did not exist in the original: gnome priests, human hunters, dwarf shamans, orc mages, troll warlocks and undead paladins. Blizzard has said the list will expand in future.
If you have wanted to play a dwarf shaman since 2004, that is the closest thing to a new class in this announcement, and it changes faction identity more than a tenth class would have.
Racial abilities have also been improved across the board, with new ones added.
What zones are in WoW Forever?

Four regions at launch, one more than the Opening Ceremony indicated:
- Mount Hyjal, an endgame levelling zone
- Zephras Isle, a new level 1 to 12 starting zone
- Riverglades
- Shen'Dralas
Over 1,000 new quests are spread across them, along with unfinished stories scattered through the existing world and more zones to be discovered later.
What dungeons and raids are in WoW Forever?

Nine new dungeons and two new raids at 10 and 20 player sizes. The raids are Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps. There is also a large outdoor dungeon called Krol'dok Stronghold.
What is the level cap in WoW Forever?
Level 60, permanently. You do not out-level the content and there is no expansion waiting to raise the ceiling.
Blizzard's reasoning is population. Raising the cap splits players across tiers of content, and the team wants progression that keeps everyone in the same world. That is what the Legacy system exists to provide.
How does the Legacy system work?

Legacy points accrue as you progress and unlock perks that change how individual mechanics work, plus cosmetics. One example Blizzard gave is a Reagent Economy node removing reagent requirements for class abilities and tier 1 camping.
Points are capped at 16 at launch, deliberately, so nobody feels pressured to chase them. The Legacy reward track itself is cosmetic only with no competitive advantage, and Blizzard says new challenges, rewards and trees arrive with each patch.
Does WoW Forever have realms?

No, and this is the structural change most people missed.
You do not pick a server. You pick a ruleset, and the options are Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Hardcore. Blizzard's server infrastructure can now hold far more players in a single realm than before, which is what makes it possible, and the practical effect is that you meet far more real people in the open world than in any other version of WoW.
Faction restrictions survive, so no cross-faction dungeons or raids. Hardcore is a separate ecosystem, and a Hardcore character who dies can transfer into one of the other rulesets rather than being finished.
What is camping in WoW Forever?

Any character can light a campfire, which creates a campsite where players rest for exclusive buffs, repair and where others craft through their professions.
Professions extend it. Blacksmiths place a Sharpening Wheel for Strength, Tailors place a Faction Banner for Spirit and Herbalists place an Incense Candle for Intellect.
This is the clearest expression of the design philosophy behind the whole project. It is a system built around stopping in the world rather than moving through it, and it creates the accidental grouping that Vanilla was known for and every version since has engineered away.
Is there transmog in WoW Forever?
Yes, handled differently from retail. Transmogrification is a global toggle you can switch on or off, both for yourself and for how other players appear to you. Most items unlock their appearance automatically when you receive them.
For bind on pickup uncommon and rare drops, the appearance goes to every eligible looter, so nobody fights over a green. Epics grant the appearance only to the player who loots it.
What is changing with professions and loot?

Every profession gains over 600 new recipes spread across all levels.
Items have been reworked or added so they are useful to every class and role rather than dead weight for most of them, and bosses across the board drop better loot. The stated aim is putting the game back into a state where builds are a puzzle worth solving, rather than a list of settled meta choices.
How does WoW Forever look?

Better than anyone expected. Blizzard is running a custom ray tracer, and the community reaction to the lighting, fog and water has been the most positive part of the entire reveal.
There is also official gamepad support with more than 20 slots for abilities, which is a first for this version of the game and a bigger deal for accessibility than it sounds.
Can you buy level boosts or game time for gold in WoW Forever?
No. Blizzard has confirmed there are no plans for either, with the stated reasoning that the journey matters.
That makes levelling the actual content rather than a gate in front of it, which is a meaningful difference from every modern version of the game. If levelling through Vanilla again is not how you want to spend your November, our WoW powerlevelling covers it.
Will there be a World of Warcraft 2?

Almost certainly not, and Forever is the reason.
Lead designer Chris Zierhut told IGN the studio has no motivation to discard 25 years of continuous development. His argument is that the engine, the server infrastructure, the rendering and the combat systems have all been improved year over year into something without equal. Starting from scratch would mean throwing all of it away.
The lore argument is the same. Zierhut said there is nothing wrong with the story and that the team loves it, so returning to the beginning in Forever becomes a chance to explore it in new ways instead.
His closing point is the one that settles it: it is very hard to answer what a WoW 2 would give you that Forever does not already.
What is the KingBoost view

Forever is the most interesting thing Blizzard has announced in years, and it is also a game where the first weeks matter more than usual. No realms means the population is concentrated rather than spread, so the race for first clears on Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps will be visible in a way Classic first clears never were.
Our WoW raid carries and dungeon runs cover the current game, and Forever services follow once the beta shows what the content demands.
