WHY IS 2400 THE NUMBER THAT MATTERS?

Because nothing below it awards the mount. Duelist at 2100 and Elite gear at 1800 are their own rewards, but Gladiator needs 2400 in 3v3 and then 50 more wins on top of it. That second half is where most players who touch 2400 fall off, and it is the reason this takes a season rather than a weekend.
