Lunar Crescent is the starter axe. Mooncleaver is Phase 1 BiS for Beast Mastery Hunters who melee weave. Bloodmoon is the Phase 5 upgrade requiring Nether Vortexes. Mooncleaver works for Arms Warriors and Retribution Paladins as a strong Phase 1 weapon, but Lionheart Executioner outperforms it for those classes.
