It is the event currency for the Vault Breaker Armory, buying Prestige weapons, Cryo Key Templates and gear you can use in standard Marathon. Tier 2 Data unlocks the highest-tier rewards, which are limited stock and one-per-event on the Prestige items.

Because the mode ends August 4 and all Vault Data resets to zero when it does. Anything you have not earned and spent by then is unobtainable once the event closes. The window is the reason to move.

 It only comes from solving consecutive vaults in a single run and then exfilling, which is brutal solo. Your boosters chain the vaults and bank the Tier 2 that most players never reach.
