What Is the Twilight Ascension Event?
Remember the Twilight's Hammer cult from Cataclysm? Well, they're back… sort of. The cultists have rebranded as the Twilight's Blade and aligned themselves with Xal'atath, the Harbinger of the Void. Your mission? Head to the Twilight Highlands and put a stop to their devious plotting before Midnight officially kicks off.
This event is packed with various, awesome activities: world quests, rare bosses, weekly objectives and even a quirky tic-tac-toe minigame (yes, really). This Pre-Patch event, like all others before, is a great opportunity to gear up your alts, farm exclusive cosmetics and grab a couple of unique mounts while you're at it.
This event is an excellent opportunity to dust off those neglected alts of yours and level them up, while The Winds of Mysterious Fortune buff is active during the event, giving you bonus XP from level 10 to 79.
Getting Started: The Intro Questline
Before you can jump into the action, you'll need to complete a short introductory questline:
- Pick up the quest in your faction's capital city (Stormwind for Alliance, Orgrimmar for Horde)
- Starting NPCs: Umbre (Alliance) or Ramat (Horde)
- Complete the chain – takes about 10 minutes
- Unlock the Ascension Basecamp in Twilight Highlands
Once done, you'll have access to the event hub, which conveniently has portals back to Stormwind, Orgrimmar and Dornogal. The camp is staffed by Void Elves (Alliance) or Blood Elves (Horde), and this is where you'll find vendors, quest givers and that tic-tac-toe table we mentioned.
Pro tip: The intro quest only needs to be completed once. After that, the event unlocks account-wide, so your alts can jump straight into the action.
Event Currency: Twilight's Blade Insignia
Everything in this event revolves around Twilight's Blade Insignia - the currency you'll use to buy mounts, transmog, pets, housing decor and catch-up gear. It's Warband-wide, you can farm on one character and spend on another without any restrictions. With consistent play, you can earn around 200+ Insignias per week—more if you decide to grind them out. That's enough to pick up multiple rewards each week, so plan accordingly!
How to Earn Insignias
Activity | Insignia Reward |
World Quests | 10 each |
Weekly Quest: "Disrupt the Call" | 40 |
Weekly Quest: "Twilight's Dawn" | 40 |
Rare Boss Kills | 1 + bonus drops |
General Mob Farming | Varies |
WoW Midnight Pre-Patch Event Activities
World Quests
The Twilight Highlands now features rotating world quests—usually 4-5 active at any given time. They're straightforward objectives (kill stuff, collect things, you know the drill) and each one rewards 10 Twilight's Blade Insignias.
On alternate characters, these quests also grant Resonance Crystals, which is a nice bonus if you're still working on your War Within progression.
Weekly Quests
Two weekly quests are available, and both are Warband quests—meaning you can make progress across multiple characters:
Disrupt the Call
- Defeat 3 Twilight Ascended rares
- Rewards: Valorstones, Resonance Crystals, Runed Crests and 40 Insignias
Twilight's Dawn
- Complete 8 world quests OR defeat 8 Twilight Ascended rares
- Rewards: Valorstones, Resonance Crystals and 40 Insignias
These are your bread and butter for Insignia farming, so make sure to knock them out each week!
Rare Summoning Events
Every 10 minutes or so, a rare summoning event spawns somewhere in the zone. When it does, you'll see an icon pop up on your map. Travel to the location, kill enemies to fill a progress bar to 100%, defeat the ritualists and summoned rare boss. Profit!
Each rare boss drops Valorstones, Resonance Crystals, crests, a chance at Warband Champion gear and 1 Twilight's Blade Insignia.
Bonus: Keep an eye out for floating ephemeral void orbs during these events. Collect enough of them, and you'll summon an additional rare called the Voice of the Eclipse. It drops the same loot as the main boss—effectively doubling your rewards for that event.
Enemies in the area can also drop gray-quality items that unlock Midnight transmog appearances early. These will be available after Midnight launches too, so don't stress if you miss some.
Achievements Guide
Two major achievements are tied to this event, and completionists will definitely want to tackle both.
"Two Minutes to Midnight"
To earn it, you need to defeat all 19 rare bosses summoned by the Twilight's Blade throughout the Twilight Highlands. This achievement is limited to Midnight Pre-Patch and once it ends, this mount becomes unobtainable.
Rewards:
- Light-Forged Mechsuit mount (a recolored version of the War Within Season 1 KSM mount)
- "Thorn of Twilight" title
Tips for completion:
- Track your progress through the achievement panel
- Rares rotate, so you may need multiple sessions to catch them all
- Grouping up makes tagging and killing much faster
- Use the map markers to quickly spot active rare events
The rares spawn frequently, but with 19 different bosses to track down, this achievement will take some dedication. If you're short on time, KingBoost's Two Minutes to Midnight achievement carry can help you secure the mount and title without the grind.
"Crunching for Cultists"
This one's a bit different. You need to win the Twilight's Blade strategy minigame 50 times. It's essentially tic-tac-toe against an AI opponent.
You can play at the tables in the Ascension Basecamp, or purchase the Twilight's Blade Top Secret Strategy Training Guide toy (30 Insignias) and play anywhere.
Tips:
- The AI isn't too challenging—just time-consuming
- Perfect for playing during dungeon queues or downtime
- You don't need to win consecutively, just 50 total wins

Complete Vendor Rewards List
Two vendors at the Ascension Basecamp sell all the event goodies:
- Materialist Ophinell – Cosmetics, mounts, pets, toys, housing decor
- Armorer Kalovan – Catch-up gear
Mount
The Retrained Skyrazor features stunning blue and purple gradients that fit the Void aesthetic perfectly. If you're a mount collector, this is a must-grab.
Transmog
Ensemble: Well-Worn Twilight Cultist's Attire - 40 Insignias
Arsenal: Weathered Twilight's Hammer Armaments - 40 Insignias
Really, what good is a character if they're not dressed to impress? The cultist robes are perfect for anyone who wants that "mysterious shadow worshipper" vibe and the weapon appearances complete the look nicely.
Toys
Twilight's Blade Top Secret Strategy Training Guide - 30 Insignias
This toy summons a tic-tac-toe minigame anywhere in WoW. You'll need it if you want to work on that Crunching for Cultists achievement without running back to the camp every time.
Pets
Scruff - 30 Insignias
Emerald Sporbit - 30 Insignias
Rhay’Dahr - 30 Insignias
Can you really resist picking up the adorable little Scruff? If you prefer something more... abstract, the Emerald Sporbit and Rhay'Dahr are equally collectible options.
Housing Decor (Silvermoon-Themed)
Silvermoon Wooden Chair - 50 Insignias
Enchanted Blood Elven Candelabra - 50 Insignias
Sin'dorei Winged Chaise - 75 Insignias
With Player Housing launching as part of the pre-patch, these Blood Elf-themed decorations are perfect for adding some Silvermoon elegance to your new home. The candelabra especially—no more living in total darkness!
Note: It's currently unclear whether these housing items will remain available after the event ends, so grab them while you can if you want to be safe.
Catch-Up Gear
The gear sits at item level 121 1/8 (post-stat squish), which is equivalent to Champion-track Warband gear. It's recolored Khaz Algar dungeon sets, nothing visually groundbreaking, but functionally solid for getting your alts ready for Midnight.
PTR testing confirmed that these items work with the catalyst, allowing you to convert them into normal tier sets from the Manaforged Raid
Pro tip: Don't rush to spend your Insignias on gear right away. The same pieces can drop from rare events, so you might get lucky and save yourself some currency for the cosmetics instead.
Efficient Farming Tips
Want to maximize your rewards during the event? Here are some tips:
- Prioritize weekly quests – They offer the best Insignia-to-time ratio (80 Insignias total per week)
Group up for rares – Events scale well with parties and you'll tag bosses faster
Check the map frequently – Rare spawn markers appear when events are active
Don't buy gear immediately – Same items can drop from rares; save Insignias for cosmetics
Use downtime for the minigame – Queue times are perfect for working on Crunching for Cultists
Level alts during the event – The Winds of Mysterious Fortune XP buff makes this a great time to catch up
Run the event on multiple characters – Weekly quests are Warband accessible, so you can progress on any character
Is Twilight Ascension Worth Your Time?
- For mount collectors: Absolutely. Two unique mounts are up for grabs—one from the vendor (100 Insignias) and one from the achievement.
- For transmog hunters: The Twilight Cultist gear adds some solid options to your collection, especially if you like that shadowy cultist aesthetic.
- For housing enthusiasts: The Silvermoon-themed decor items are beautiful and getting them early means your house can look amazing from day one.
- For alt-levelers: Between the XP buff and the catch-up gear, this is one of the best times to get characters ready for Midnight.
- For casual players: The currency system is generous and the gameplay loop is simple. You can make meaningful progress even with limited play time.
Verdict: Twilight Ascension is a well-designed pre-patch event that offers something for everyone. The steady flow of currency, rotating activities, and solid reward selection make it worth engaging with—even if you're not a completionist.
